Karen Lam, Principal Consultant

Karen Lam is passionate about her work as a communications strategist and executive coach. As principal of Compass International, she coaches CEO and executive clients to communicate their message with impact and authenticity.

Having lived and worked in Europe, Africa, Asia and North America, Karen brings a global perspective to her work. Karen has worked for twenty years with clients in industries as diverse as technology, biotechnology, healthcare, financial services, consulting services, education, and consumer products.

Karen has coached the CEO or President at companies such as Apple Computer, BEA Systems, the Disneyland Resort, the San Francisco Examiner, Dresdner RCM Global Investors, Packard Bell NEC, Wind River Systems, eToys.com, Sequenom, University of California at San Francisco, and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

When she lived in Asia, Karen led the communications training practice in the Greater China region for Burson-Marsteller, the world's largest public relations firm. Her role included designing new programs and training other trainers. She also served as Senior Training Consultant at American Express International. Karen began her career teaching in universities in Asia and the United States. Karen holds an M.A. in Linguistics from the University of Montana and a B.A. in Literary Studies from the University of Toronto. She is fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese Chinese as well as English.
